PARTNERSHIP BRINGS BENEFITS AT GREENERGY
January 2012

With sales of nearly £10 billion, Greenergy is Britain’s third largest private company and the UK’s top road fuel supplier.  The company sell around 200 million litres of fuel every week to customers including major oil companies and supermarkets. With IT systems that are business critical to the company and their customers, Greenergy identified an IT partner who had a track record in delivering the high level of service required. Following a recommendation from an existing customer, Greenergy was attracted by Waterstons’ customer service ethos and breadth of expertise. Since March 2010, working with Greenergy’s team on a number of projects, Waterstons has already achieved major improvements.

Infrastructure Technology
Waterstons’ Infrastructure Technology team  has already enhanced resilience of the WAN, LAN and server farm.  Examples of projects being performed to do this include implementation of a highly available virtual infrastructure based in multiple data-centres.  This infrastructure replaces or consolidates a combination of legacy physical and virtual servers operating across four locations.

Managed Services
IT service desk functions are now carried out by a dedicated Managed Services team, utilising a mixture of Greenergy staff and Waterstons’ own remote service desk to provide the highest possible service level round the clock.

Business Software Development
The Business Software Development team has worked with Greenergy to develop innovative improvements to their business systems.  One of several examples includes a pilot solution supporting the installation of mobile computers in the cabs of road-tankers used to transport fuel from storage facilities to filling stations.  In partnership with Greenergy, Waterstons has  customised existing systems, allowing Greenergy to securely track vehicles and supporting paper-free transactions when loading or discharging fuel and automating data feeds.

The partnership with Greenergy, capitalising on Waterstons’ considerable experience, has resulted in further reductions in risk of business disruption through IT systems being unavailable. Waterstons has supported Greenergy’s culture of responding in an efficient and timely manner, and has enabled the accurate flow of information between different business systems to near-real-time.

Tanis Jardin, Chief Information Officer at Greenergy, commented “Waterstons are reactive to customer requirements and deliver a robust service.”
