About the Mergers & Acquisitions Specialist role

We’re thinking ahead. The Mergers & Acquisitions team have delivered a good deal of interesting and value-creating work into Waterstons. We need to keep this momentum going.

The role requires a sound understanding of the merger and acquisition deal process and a wide grasp of technology. We are looking for a market-facing role, with strong and credible communication. Client Director skills with business leaders, beyond IT, are essential. Part of your responsibility will be to nurture and develop existing relationships with influential companies, private equity and corporate finance contacts, spinning new opportunities from this network. And part will be about finding new partners and new opportunities.

 You must be able to explain clearly how Waterstons’ portfolio of skills could be used to address the clients’ and prospects’ issues – which means that you will need the business understanding to assess those needs and the rounded technology overview to address them.  

Alongside the front office/business development work, you will also lead teams on the delivery of IT due diligence projects, completing reports for investors that will include assessments on business systems, infrastructure/cloud, integration and security. You will lead and contribute to a range of post-deal programmes, from complex carve-outs to system integrations.

There’s no room for parochialism – M&A projects typically win work for teams right across Waterstons.

Leadership skills are important. From the start, this role includes leading complex programmes of work; in due course it may involve taking on a team leadership role.  In addition, the ability and desire to mentor and support colleagues in their development, both within the M&A team and wider organisation, are fundamental requirements of this role.

Personal Profile for the Mergers & Acquisitions Specialist

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate substantial understanding of merger and acquisition deal structures, enabling them to act as a credible and trusted adviser to principals, investors and corporate finance professionals. A strong and rounded grasp of technology – coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with technology professionals internally and externally – and a desire to further your personal knowledge base are essential. You will welcome the focus on business development, because the role is more ‘front office’ than ‘back office’. You will bring your own list of contacts and ideas to the role.

This role will be Remote / Flexible on location. Currently we’re utilising technology to work remotely and continue our great work.
