Alexandra Smith

Software Developer

I moved to Newcastle to complete a Maths and Psychology degree. Maths was always my favourite subject in school and I always had my head in a psychology book, learning about how people think differently or how this information could be used to make people’s lives easier. Pursuing a computer science masters felt logical as it can be used to solve people focused problems. My masters gave me the opportunity to investigate how technology can be used as a therapy or assessment tool for special education and mental health.

I joined Waterstons in January 2020. Having read about their culture and values, I hoped to work in a friendly and collaborative environment. It has not failed to disappoint! So far, I have been inspired by the people who are passionate about what they do. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my friends, whether that’s travelling, eating or playing board games with a cup of tea. I have dabbled in craft projects although I tend to make a mess more than anything else.
