Andy Mooney

Senior Technology Consultant

The Early Days

After studying Computer Aided Engineering at the University of Teesside it became obvious that although I had a huge interest in the engineering side it was computers that really piqued my interest, so in 1994 I took on my first role as a CAD administrator for a local architects.

My role immediately outgrew simply looking after the CAD environment and I became involved with all aspects of the IT Infrastructure and so began my first migration – a Novell token ring network with DOS based PC’s to Ethernet on Windows NT 3.51 and a few long nights installing Windows/Office 95 from floppy disks!

Moving On

I then moved away from Teesside and worked in a few different roles which took me from Leeds, to the East Midlands via the Isle of Man, and finally back to the North East. Working in various industries from a software house to local government, household appliance manufacturer to IT managed service providers and a luxury yacht builders, getting involved in a number of different projects and technologies all based around IT infrastructure. Infrastructure Migrations seeming to be the norm – the largest being 5000 users over 70 sites.

To Waterstons

I applied for the role at Waterstons and was brought in as a Senior Technology Consultant. I currently get involved with a number of different projects and customers, no two days are ever the same and ensure I call on all of my 21 years’ experience in IT!

I’m also Team Leader for the Waterstons ‘Talent Pool’ managing and developing a team of consultants with a wide ranging skillset across a number of technologies including Microsoft System Center Suite, RDS, Citrix, Exchange/Office 365, Active Directory, SQL Server, VMWare, Networking and general IT Infrastructure support and management. It’s a really enjoyable place to work and refreshing to be in a company that really takes the satisfaction of its customers seriously, working alongside hugely talented people all going the ‘extra mile’ to ensure the service we deliver is second to none.

My mantra is ''there are no problems – only solutions''.

Home Life

My time on the Isle of Man has left me with a love of motorbikes and road racing – I restored a 28 year old FZR400 in 2014 and I’m currently looking for my next project. (Though I really must pass my test!!) In my spare time I like to spend time with my two kids as much as possible. I like to play the guitar (badly!) and enjoy being in the outdoors camping and barbequing. I also play football and more recently, hockey as goalkeeper and I’m currently on the lookout for a new team… (missing the bruises!)

Secret Passion

Tattoos and tattoo art (and I can occasionally be found with a machine buzzing in my hands).
