Callum Lake

Information Security Consultant

Before Joining Waterstons

Before joining Waterstons I studied Computer Forensics and Security at Leeds Beckett University. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and took on all things related to the course and university that I could, I didn't get much sleep due to that. I ended up being an ambassador to the university, a representative for my year group, and an external tutor for schools coming in. I was also a committee member of the Leeds Hacking Society, delivering numerous talks on a range of subjects.

Working At Waterstons

Working at Waterstons has provided a wide variety of challenges and learning opportunities for me, from more generalised IT service desk roles, to the really security conscious penetration testing and cyber security governance that I covered in my degree. There is never a dull day working here and each day you’re learning new things and finding new approaches to a vast array of problems. It is definitely aided by the people who work here, who are only a message or phone call away when help is needed, or even just a chat and a brainstorming session.

Outside of Work

Outside of my work, I am a Kickboxer and a coach in the same discipline. Surprisingly, I still have all my teeth. I have done this for a fair while and truly enjoy what I do. Alongside this, I'm also the founder of the Newcastle DEFCON Chapter, a meeting for hackers, geeks and people interested in computers/tech. I can also be found at different BSides events either giving talks or helping out. Going to gigs is also a huge hobby of mine, I normally end up down the heavier side of music which a lot of my friends complain about.
