I’ve worked in IT since I left school and became an IT apprentice. Not the usual route into the working world at the time but I knew exactly what I wanted to do and I wanted to get started straight away.
Since then I’ve worked for all types of companies, of varying sizes and have worked on some really great projects; some big, some small. My main areas of expertise are focused on Microsoft technologies such as Hyper-V, SharePoint, SCCM and Remote Desktop.
I joined the Waterstons team in 2016 after working for a really cool London start-up. My interview experience was very different and at that point I knew Waterstons was a company I wanted to work for. Since joining the Managed Services team in our London office I’ve been able to work with some great clients. Working in a collaborative way to implement and improve the way technology works for a business is very rewarding.
I’ve recently had a lot of opportunity to work with Microsoft Azure and Office 365. It has been a steep learning curve to move away from having complete control of servers and applications in the server room, to managing and developing servers and applications remotely in the cloud but, it opens up opportunities I don’t think the industry and organisations have had before.
When I’m not in the office
Living in London is a lot of fun, there is always something different to do every weekend so I tend to go out and explore a lot. I also tend to go to the gym often, but that’s mainly to get my money’s worth – they’re so expensive round here!
I’m currently learning Portuguese, the Brazilian variety (Tudo bem?). I find languages fascinating and I eventually want to learn Chinese Mandarin and Arabic – Portuguese seemed the easiest to start with!
I have a passion for software development, so as a hobby I like to learn to code. Right now, I’m learning Node.Js and hope to start developing some apps to do things that I'd find useful, but maybe others will too.
I also tweet a lot about Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365 and Azure so, if you haven't already give me a follow and say hi! @danoharatweets
