Daniel Ityokyaa

Information Security Consultant

My first encounter with a computer was about 20 years ago as a kid visiting my cousin in Toronto Canada for the Christmas holiday. It was an IBM ThinkPad T40 laptop running Windows 98 operating system which I used to learn some basic coding on C++ and instantly fell in love with computers.

I studied computer science as a first degree and moved my focus towards computer networks where I achieved a Cisco certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification in 2007. I soon realised how businesses rely on IT to help them work more efficiently and became aware of how the security of information was overlooked which could have potentially devastating effect if there is a security breach. I wanted to have a better understanding of how to secure data and enrolled in a master’s degree programme at the University of East London to study information Security and computer forensics where I graduated with a first class distinction.

I haven’t looked back ever since and have worked in a variety of technical roles in the past 8 years supporting various operating systems and applications that run on premise and in the cloud. My passion has always been in the direction of information security. I’m a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and an ISO 27001 Lead Implementer which provides me with the skills and knowledge to help organisations achieve ISO 27001 (the gold standard for best practices implementing an Information Security Management System) and Cyber Essentials certification schemes.

Outside of work I enjoy sports such as boxing and football, spending time with my kids and attend the occasional comedy shows at various London locations. I also volunteer at my local church and community centre teaching children how to safely use the internet. Any free time I have left, I’ll either be reading an interesting book or watching fantasy / sci-fi movies and TV series.
