Dawn McBeath

Senior Technology Consultant

I joined Waterstons in the summer of 2016 as a Business Consultant. What attracted me the most was the culture, values and the people-first approach. I came from a non-IT background working in both the public and private sector, in a variety of roles within Human Resources & Payroll, Corporate Events Management and Planning and Building Control.

My interest in technology sparked in my late teens. I oversaw the extensive task of the digitisation of planning applications at my local Council. I then moved on to another public sector organisation where I was involved with the transition of paper-based applications to online applications. I was intrigued about how technology improved and streamlined business processes.

Always keen to learn more, I volunteered in a Computer Technician Center and attended adult night classes to learn how to build websites (in Dreamweaver). As technology advanced, I taught myself how to use alternative platforms. Subsequently, I provided a service to help small local businesses with designing their website and social media platforms.

In my early thirties I choose to completely change my career to work in IT. I studied and graduated with a degree in Information Communications Technologies, it was during this time I secured a role at Waterstons.

Over the years at Waterstons I have project managed or been involved in a wide range of projects from System Integration and User Acceptance Testing, process mapping and IT and Digital Strategies to name a few. I also volunteer as a mentor both internally at Waterstons and externally to support mentees both professionally and personally as they continue to develop and grow.

Life Outside Waterstons

I am very fortunate to be surrounded by so many great friends and family of whom I devote a lot of my spare time to. I mostly take part in a range of activities with my partner and my nearly teenage son. We play badminton, we go camping, we walk, cycle, run, gym, swim, trek, we love almost anything outdoorsy! When we aren’t as active, we enjoy quiet nights in with board and card games and get involved in charity work.
