Life before Waterstons

My journey in to the grown-up world started at the age of 16 when I worked part-time as a Receptionist in a local hotel, whilst studying full-time at college. After completing my studies in management I secured a trainee management role with a leading hotel chain. During my traineeship I was given the opportunity to specialise in Human Resources (or Personnel as it was then). After too many years working long and unsociable hours I moved in to Retail Management, (still long and sometimes unsociable hours), working for some well-known and some might say iconic stores; I think it’s really sad that some of these have now disappeared from our high streets. Move on a few years and I find myself working for my family’s business’s (seven of them at one point) and I did this until my Mum retired. What followed was going to cement my career in HR. Firstly working for the NHS in their Employment Services Department, specialising in internal recruitment and then on to a more generalist HR role in the third sector.

Why Waterstons

I joined Waterstons as their HR Advisor in June 2018 and I was genuinely excited about joining the team and everything the future might bring. Their culture and values are important to me both personally and professionally and it’s evident that everyone here lives and breathes them. We are entrusted to do a “good job” and that makes for a really empowering place to work that is friendly and supportive at the same time.

In my spare time

I enjoy keeping fit and have been a member of my local gym for over 17 years, (that long that I feel part of the fixtures and fittings). I go most days and enjoy participating in exercise classes such as Body Combat, Body Attack, Spin and Speedflex. I have made some lifelong friends at the gym, I think some of the other members think we are all a bit crazy, which we are of course. As well as keeping fit, I try to eat healthily too, (well 80% of the time) and when I need to recharge my batteries I like going on holiday, I love going away, but it’s always nice coming home, I guess I’m a home-bird at heart.
