Leanne Cullen

Before joining Waterstons in 2003, I completed a Computer Science degree at Durham University and moved down to the big smoke working as a Business Intelligence consultant within the Financial and Pharmaceutical industries.

After three years of the rat race, the beauty and charm of the North East called me back and, having worked at Waterstons as a student, it was the only company I wanted to work for when I moved back to the area. Luckily they remembered me and seemed happy to have me back.

Since joining I have worked my way through from being a developer to being a project manager (I still do this when I can – it’s fun!), I then headed up the most amazing team of clever, conscientious, creative software developers. Now as Operations Director I am responsible for three more brilliant teams of consultants who exude helpfulness in looking after our client’s infrastructure, who implement technology to deliver IT aligned to our clients’ business strategies and who ensure that our clients are cyber secure.

The work we do is varied, interesting and challenging. Every day is different with new people to meet and new problems to solve.

I love my job…

As I get to do a mixture of strategic work and detailed work. There is nothing more rewarding than having a growing team of consultants working together, improving each day in what we do and in what we deliver. We have a wide range of clients who are great to work with, and seeing that the results of what we do helps to solve their business problems, and makes their working lives easier, is really satisfying.

Focussed and driven…

I have incredibly high expectations for myself and demand it of others. I am a finisher and hate leaving a job half done. I love detailed work, am decisive, tenacious and a little controlling but as I get older (and hopefully wiser) I have learnt that when you trust people, they rarely disappoint and always rise to the challenge.

It’s surprising that…

In my personal life I am the antithesis of my working life, as I prefer to be spontaneous and take each day as it comes. I'm naturally skinny which is really lucky, as I hate exercise and love chocolate and sweets and cake. I have had the opportunity to travel to some amazing places and particularly enjoy experiencing different cultures and cuisines.
