Louis Headley

Bespoke Consultant

I’ve just joined Waterstons fresh out of university, having studied Theoretical Physics at Edinburgh and it was during my studies that I got really interested in producing software. I’ve always enjoyed problem solving but initially I was only interested in solving math problems. However, after taking a coding course at university I fell in love with writing software and have since seized every opportunity possible to write codes to solve problems. This culminated in my master’s thesis, where I used machine learning to triangulate the position of exploding stars.

Now that I’m working at Waterstons I’m still solving problems, but now in a very different domain. I’ve already learned a lot since joining, including a list of acronyms as long as your arm, and I’ve loved every minute of it so far. Being in the data and analytics team I’ll be spending my time extracting, transforming and loading data, analysing that data and helping businesses use data to make decisions. I’m excited to learn as much as I can and to take on some interesting and difficult projects.

Outside of work, you can usually find me either playing the violin, rock climbing or on my mountain bike. I also speak Spanish and go to a language exchange on a weekly basis. I’ll do pretty much anything anyone suggests I should try, leading me to the annoying situation of having more hobbies than I have time to devote to them, but undoubtedly I’ll pick up a new hobby in the next year.
