Mark Lawson

Senior Transformation Consultant Distribution & Transportation Lead Consultant

Qualifying as an Engineer in 2009, I have always loved tackling big complex problems, in a systematic structured way, focusing on developing solutions that innovate, excite but ultimately deliver the required results. As a natural optimist, I see my 8 years of experience, working across multiple sectors, helping businesses achieve higher performance through technology as the starting point to tackling the challenges (and opportunities) of the future.

It means I am always on the lookout for new opportunities and challenges; smoothing out business processes, improving customers’ experiences, saving money and increasing productivity. I am passionate about communicating the cost, quality, and value of IT investments to non IT business partners and in turn, championing IT to drive innovation. I am a strong believer that all business is relational, and that people are at the heart of all successful business transformation. I thoroughly enjoy deepening and applying my understanding of how people, processes and technology all fit together.

Leading a fantastic group of creative and talented Distribution and Transport consultants is a real privilege. We focus on understanding the business of our client’s sectors (Airports, Ports and Distribution & Logistics) and translate how IT can drive real business value in these areas. Combing a deep understanding of the sectors and emerging technologies, allows us to establish and promote IT practices that empower our client’s IT to collaborate with their business partners to identify and execute impactful technology strategies to achieve business objectives.

I joined Waterstons in 2014, initially as a bespoke developer, before making the switch 9 months later to a business consulting role in the Transformation team. Prior to joining Waterstons, I created world leading industrial research for the electrical distribution industry at Durham University and before that worked as an engineer brewing beer for Heineken.

When I’m not at work, I knock things down and try to rebuild them by renovating houses, taking a space and improving it – true transformation at work. Alternatively you’ll find me cooking or running (I try to keep the two in balance, but that rarely happens) or serving at Kings Church Durham.
