Matthew Pounder

Security Consultant

Before joining Waterstons, I've worked in various IT roles since attaining my degree at Northumbria University studying Digital and Computer Forensics. My experience is mostly drawn from working within the service desk from the first line and second line support to my most recent role as a Senior IT Technician. My experience has allowed me to support large organisations within the public and private sector with their networks, servers and taking an IT security lead in company policies.

I’ve always had an interest in IT security, by keeping up with the latest news and trends, learning about new software and ways of identifying and resolving security issues. My degree allowed me to explore IT security in-depth and allowed me to build on my skills and knowledge that I would go on to use in my various IT roles.

The collaboration across the teams here at Waterstons is something I’ve really noticed and appreciated. Everyone is willing to help and get the job done. At Waterstons, I hope to continue my learning in the ever-changing area of security and expand my knowledge to help the team and the business.

Outside of work I like to watch football (a Hartlepool United season ticket holder for my sins) and play tennis. I’ve played tennis for many local clubs across Newcastle and Hartlepool. I also love to play most racket sports (badminton/squash/table tennis) and always up for a game! A few years ago, I took up bass guitar, was part of a band before lockdown and played a few gigs!
