Ian Stevenson

Senior Project Manager

Life before Waterstons:

After originally graduating as an electronics / electrical engineer and computer scientist, my initial career was spent working in the defence industry in Edinburgh designing, and managing the development of advanced high-technology defence equipment. When the UK defence industry hit a period of decline (and as I always had an interest in business and management), I was fortunate to receive an opportunity to re-train. After re-training, I moved into project management joining Syntegra (then a wholly-owned and independent consulting & SI business within BT Group).

During my period with Syntegra / BT, I gained considerable experience in managing & ensuring the successful delivery of complex transformation projects and programmes for major clients in the retail, construction, manufacturing, European government, and professional services sectors on national, European and global scales. These programmes included everything from the first telephone banking call centre in Italy, bespoke multi-channel contact centres, research and development of an architecture for pan-European government identity verification, multi-vendor outsourcing, as well as both UK-wide and global comms transformations.

After leaving BT in 2018, I had a short break, and then worked for a global IT service provider before joining Waterstons.

Life at Waterstons:

Since joining Waterstons I have been really impressed by the company’s commitment to its values and the extent to which it empowers its staff to deliver for its clients. At Waterstons, I am looking forward to managing and ensuring the successful delivery of projects for Waterstons clients, as well as driving and supporting the growth of Waterston’s business, in Scotland.

Life outside of Waterstons:

I am based in Waterstons Glasgow office – however, I live in Edinburgh and enjoy the benefits that both cities offer. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family - this seems to involve looking after two mischievous ragdoll cats, and a lot of taxi services for my student daughter at the moment! I also enjoy watching football and professional rugby (such as the Pro14 and Six Nations), and eventually hope to get back to trying to get a golf ball to go where I want it to go on a consistent basis. I also like to spend time in my garden with whatever garden gadgets I can, to try and prevent it from becoming a wilderness.
