Jessica Hall

Senior Security Consultant

I joined Waterstons in July 2017 as a Technology Consultant, following my graduation from Northumbria University.

My interest in IT Security started when my very first laptop became infected with so many viruses it couldn’t run. After the panic phase passed, I realised my determination to clean up the machine was related to an interest in the viruses and how they worked. After a short-lived venture into Crime Scene Forensics (my squeamish side won), I considered Digital Forensics, which fed both my malware and forensics interest.

This led to my degree in Digital and Computer Forensics at Northumbria University, which taught me about forensic investigation on various devices, from the iPhone to the Xbox all the way to my old laptop. As my course sometimes covered heavy subjects, I balanced it out with my involvement in the Musical Theatre Society (as a bit of Disney solves everything!).

I was initially introduced to Waterstons at a Graduate Careers fair at University, where I was amazed at how flexible the career path was and how friendly the team were. I didn’t believe that anyone could pitch ideas and get full support behind it, but it’s true! I pushed from the start to create a Security Service desk and three months later, we’ve nearly got it all set up!

I am currently working as part of the Managed Services team, multi-tasking from the Service Desk, which includes supporting an extensive range of our clients, and setting up the Security Desk. Most of my role includes monitoring our clients’ servers to check everything is running smoothly and fixing any issues that arise. I am also looking towards gaining ITIL and Cyber Essentials qualifications in the upcoming months to further my professional knowledge.

Outside of work I like to think I rival Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen (please don’t tell him) and love to try out new recipes.

So far I am thoroughly enjoying my time here at Waterstons and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
