Lee Foster

Head of Remote Services

I didn’t actually start my career in IT, in fact I served a 6 year apprenticeship as a lithographer after leaving college. Although I was content with my career choice I realised I was always much more interested in the technology and processes we used to create the finished products.

After 10 years I decided it was time for a career change and that IT was where my future lay. Without any real experience I was lucky enough to secure a job with Dell as a field service engineer, This was great for a while but it was a bit of a lonely existence on the road all day and it’s hard to have a good Christmas party on your own!

After leaving Dell I have spent the last 12 years working for various manufacturing companies, starting out on the service desk before moving on to the server infrastructure teams. In these roles I specialised in virtualisation, in particular published apps and VDI, using both VMware and Citrix technologies. Other areas of expertise are storage, backups and disaster recovery.

Since joining Waterstons I’ve already had the opportunity to meet and work with several clients. Its fascinating to see the different ways they utilize IT, no 2 clients are the same. There's never a dull day and the “next big thing” is always round the corner, whether its “virtualisation”, “cloud” or, my new favourite, the “Internet of things”…

In the last 2 years I have developed a keen interest in the service delivery aspect of IT, in particular using the ITIL model, and I’ve been lucky enough to complete my ITIL Expert certification in 2017.

Outside of work, you’ll find me hanging out with friends or, more likely, spending time with my family. I always seem to be dropping my children off at some activity, my son plays rugby and my daughter does taekwondo (fun fights certainly hurt a lot more than they used to). I’m also a big sports fan, especially Football (Newcastle United!), Formula 1 and Boxing… I used to play a lot of football & golf but I found after my kids were born my spare time seemed to disappear……along with my hair unfortunately!
