Richard Brown

Project/Programme Manager

Life before Waterstons

Following completion of my computer science degree I joined BT Syntegra as a technical graduate undertaking many different roles from systems support, implementation and then through the design route into solution architecture. My main focus was within local government and health, working on many projects focusing on solution architecture across the UK. I returned to one of my early projects as the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for the BT City of Edinburgh Council programme overseeing many new transformation programmes and ensuring we could deliver an effective ICT service. A call came through which took me to Perth, Australia to bid on a new BT Australia programme to provide the ICT for a green field new 830 bed state of the art hospital. Weeks turned into months and after winning the bid I decided to take on the role as CTO for the BT partnership to deliver the ICT solution. This was a very exciting programme of work and such an achievement to see the hospital up and running into live service. I then moved role to head up the design and architecture team for BT Australia with the team based in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

After making a decision to return to the UK it was time to look for the next opportunity….

Life at Waterstons

I joined Waterstons in September 2018 as part of the PMO team to manage new programmes of work with programme management and architecture expertise. Delivering complex solutions end to end is what I particularly love, the ability to scope, deliver and achieve the customer outcomes with a flexible approach to the delivery methodology.

Life Outside work

I’m passionate about the great outdoors. Before leaving Australia my wife and I took the opportunity to circumnavigate Australia with our 4x4 and camping trailer for an extended period. I’ve been involved in Scouting most of my life and now currently look after Riding Mill Scouts as Group Scout Leader. I love camping, hiking, backpacking and mountain biking so you will often find me out and about exploring or helping to run a Beaver/Cub or Scout session.
