Simon Birbeck

Executive Technology Consultant

My career at Waterstons began in 2007 after 15 years working in Local Government and Education.

My first ‘Waterstons objective’ was to become VMware VCP3 accredited, which at the time seemed traumatic, but with hindsight wasn’t too bad. My first project was to formulate an infrastructure strategy for a global leader who develop and supply inkjet and screen inks, colorants and toner. This project culminated in a £500kpa saving for the client on IT support costs alone.

I work with clients across all sectors, predominantly satisfying my technical focus on secure and resilient infrastructure, but always with an eye on high performance and low cost of ownership. I’ve broadened my server virtualisation skills across other hypervisors and into the cloud, and my favourite word has changed from IOPS to latency.

Outside work I’m into cars, landscaping/gardening and holidays.
