Rob Colclough

Executive Technology Consultant

From making my Dad’s Acorn Electron more efficient through a process of disassembly and reassembly (with a few parts left over), to hacking Windows 95 with a hex editor to make the Start button say something else (I’ll leave you guessing as to what), it was clear from an early age my future was going to be in a technical field. Fast forward a few years, and with a trail of ‘homebrew projects’ (including a few destroyed VCRs) in my wake I’m now lucky enough to indulge my passion in my work.

I first joined Waterstons as an intern before returning to Northumbria University to complete my degree in Computer and Network Technology. My final year project involved hacking wireless networks to expose the security flaws in WEP, and since returning I’ve continued my professional development obtaining Microsoft, VMWare, ITIL and Cisco certifications along the way.

Over the years my desire to understand how “things” work has grown into a desire to understand how businesses, and the processes within them, operate and how technology can help. In my role as a Site Manager I have the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of IT in business; from getting involved in solving devilishly complex technical problems, to being instrumental in the development of a organisation’s IT strategy.

Outside of the office I’m a keen cyclist, foodie (which most definitely includes ale!) and photographer and London provides an excellent backdrop for all three. I also have a penchant for travelling and anything that gets the adrenaline going (preferably at the same time). This includes climbing volcanoes, sea kayaking, scuba diving, skydiving, bungee jumping, zorbing and flying in an assortment of powered and unpowered craft and I think it might be a while before I run out of things to add to my list.
