Waterstons founded as a partnership between Sally Waterston, Mike Waterston and Elaine Tullett. First employee is Ajaib Singh who is now a director.

1995
We moved in over a client’s car dealership in Dragonville and won our first IT Strategy and support contract with fashion wholesaler Visage. The staff numbers were now 7.

1996
Our turnover reached half a million and we took on accounting and additional technical expertise. Notable new clients included Westmorland Motorway Services.

1998
We became a Microsoft Solutions provider and started to gain Microsoft accreditations. We expanded the space in the offices we rented. We gained several large Systems Selection contracts for the Business Consultancy team.

1999
First significant Managed services contract with Durham University Business School. Important new customers in Marlow Foods (Quorn) and Phillips Imperial Petroleum.

2000
Waterstons became incorporated and burst through the £1million turnover. Staff numbers up to 32 and became a Microsoft Partner. We moved to a new purpose built office at the end of the year. We held a big party to celebrate our million pound turnover

2001
Investors in People awarded in 6 weeks and we won several awards including the Microsoft Digital Britain award and the Insurance Times European award for work we had done with the National Salvage Group.

2002
We were recognised in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 in the UK and in the Sunday Times Tech Track. More prestigious contracts won including a major one for Darlington Borough Council.

2003
We were one of only three North Eastern companies to be listed in the Deloitte’s European Fast 500 awards. We won a bid to carry out the first of several IT Alignment exercises for Newcastle International Airport.

2004
We project managed the implementation of SAP at Newcastle International airport. We also achieved Microsoft Gold certified partner status and won new development contracts bringing our turnover to over £3million and our staff numbers to 54. We held a big party to celebrate our 10 years.

2005
We started to use Microsoft SharePoint and to develop our skills, holding joint seminars and workshops with Microsoft. The concept of the Friday afternoon seminar and knowledge sharing was born. Mike developed the concept of the Five Ways of improving business performance through technology.

2006
We acquired a prestigious contract with Fox Head Europe to develop a sales portal and some large consulting projects for IT Alignment projects across a number of sectors. The internal strapline ‘Creative, Proactive and Dependable’ was born.

2007
We won a tender to develop the IIE Project for Home Group. A huge development project and also obtained work in Aberdeen, the North West, and large contracts in London

2008
We started to use the external strapline ‘Performance through Technology’ in all of our branding. We expanded our knowledge and experience into Unified Communications including VoIP telephony and OCS the precursor of Lync. Our turnover, employee numbers and profits continued to grow steadily.

2009
We gained ISO9001 accreditation. We acquired more customers in the North West and work in Europe. We won a tender to develop the global intranet for William Grant.

2010
Elddis IT Strategy. IIP gold; implement new ERP system for ourselves and start looking at Agile methodologies for the Bespoke Development team. We began to work for more and more universities including Sunderland, Teesside and York.

2011
Turnover breaks through £5million. London Office set up and initial project for Heathrow Airport.

Move to larger London office.

2013
Take on second office in Durham; set up the Project Management Office. Get some very large bespoke development partnership projects with NatCen and Interoute in London. We start to develop mobile applications for customers.

2014
Waterstons turns 20! Continuous Professional Development programme set up. Get new work in the manufacturing sector and with Dublin Airport.

2015
Susan Bell is appointed CEO. Our London office moves to 20 Little Britain. We're reappointed by Vopak UK and Durham University Business School. Recruit our largest intake of graduates.

2016
Gain ISO27001 Information Security accreditation and two new cyber security standards – Cyber Essentials and IASME. We reach 100 employees. For the third consecutive year we're accredited Gold IIP.

2017
Waterstons opens a third office in Glasgow. We've grown to 128 employees. Shortlisted for Investors In People Gold employer of the year award (50-249 people).
