Mike Pemberton

Technology Consultant

Having graduated from the University of Teesside with a First Class BSc in Computing and Networks, I joined Waterstons via the graduate recruitment program. Networks have always been my passion and as part of my dissertation I demonstrated the methods required to build a large organisation's network with consideration to the ITIL framework. In my time here I’ve learned that IT is never boring or mundane – with the spread of knowledge across multiple clients each day is different!

What exactly do I do?

My biggest passion is networking and I can often be found tinkering with kit both in the office and at home to discover new ways of doing things.

I started at Waterstons assigned to a client site for three years in the oil and gas sector, managing their day-to-day IT as well as looking after their site automation networks and servers. After this I spent a year on the Service Desk familiarising myself with Waterstons' wide portfolio of clients and getting involved in project support. I've now moved into specialising as a Network Consultant, designing and implementing networks for a variety of industry sectors which is highly rewarding. My main interest within the networking role is security and how to design not just efficient networks that deliver the highest possible performance, but those that also ensure data and services are kept secure.

What do I do to switch off from work?

Outside of work my two outlets are working on my car and riding my bicycle, taking pleasure in the beautiful scenery of the North East – although my time is mostly taken up by my two beautiful children building Lego models and being climbed on!
